Welcome to the Home of the Mount Royal University Men's Rugby Club!
The MRU Men's Rugby Club is a program under Mount Royal University Cougars Recreation and Athletics. The program runs as one team, separating into different squads as games and tournaments arise. This allows our practices and skills sessions to take advantage of the various levels of rugby experience while giving appropriate competitive opportunities to all our players. The Fall season is focused on 15s rugby (15 a side), while the Winter season is focused on 7s rugby (7 a side).
In the Fall, the club's main focus is to gain a berth to the Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship (CUMRC) by competing in the Prairies University Men's Rugby Championship (PUMRC) against the University of Alberta, University of British Columbia - Okanagan (UBCO), University of Calgary, and University of Saskatchewan. Alongside this competition, our development squad competes in a full exhibition against similar development teams from the University of Calgary, University of Alberta and UBCO, as well as teams from the University of Lethbridge, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Regina Nomads, Edmonton Gold and Calgary Colts.
In the Winter, the club focuses on indoor training, track sessions and skill acquisition. The club competes in university tournaments across the provinces and also plans a yearly bigger trip to an international sevens tournament. In the past, the team has travelled to Victoria, BC, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Los Angeles, California for tournaments.
